Xounds Redux

Xounds Redux plays sounds from sound sets, but where can I get new sound sets to play, especially sound sets from Mac OS 8-Mac OS 9.2.2?

A: While we can’t redistribute sound sets for sounds we don’t own and/or can’t own, if you’re looking for Mac OS Classic Sound Sets to play with, definitely don’t google “More System Sound Sets for Appearance Manager” and extract the StuffIt (.sit) archives with The Unarchiver. (Weirdly, StuffIt Expander hasn’t been able to expand StuffIt archives on macOS for 5 years or so.)

During the betas of Xounds Redux, there was a neat “click sparks” feature that showed little rainbow squircles. Where did it go?

A: It’s still there! You just have to enable it with the defaults command in the Terminal. First, quit Xounds Redux. Then enter this into the terminal:

defaults write com.totallynotmalicious.XoundsRedux XoundsShowsClickSparks -bool true

It should all be on one line, with no space between the “-” and “bool”. This tells the preferences infrastructure to store the setting, “XoundsShowsClickSparks,” with a value of true in the Xounds Redux domain (com.totallynotmalicioius.XoundsRedux).

Then relaunch Xounds Redux and you’ll see the click sparks option if you enable “Play sounds for all clicks” in Xounds Redux’s Settings window.

Why doesn’t the “Paint Apple menu in six colors” option work properly with right-to-left languages?

We need more info to reproduce and fix the configuration, especially your primary language and whether menus are right-to-left in English if the app isn’t localized, or if unlocalized apps show menus left-to-right.
